Kolkata, recently declared the safest city in the country, faces a safety challenge as allegations of violent behavior by app cab drivers emerge, particularly concerning women's safety. A recent incident unfolded where a female passenger accused an app cab driver of misbehavior and assault. According to sources, the woman had booked the app cab from Sealdah station on a Saturday evening.
Allegedly, once inside the cab, the driver began behaving inappropriately with the female passenger in the back seat. Further claims suggest that instead of following the designated route, the driver took a detour.
When the woman objected, an argument ensued, and the driver, along with others called to the scene, reportedly assaulted the passenger. Traffic police on duty intervened, prompting the app cab driver to flee the scene. The victim filed a written complaint at Amherst Police Station, initiating a police investigation, including the search for the driver based on the car's registration.
